Innovation agency Nesta and charity The MCS Foundation have come together to launch a newly-developed platform, designed to demystify the heat pump process for UK consumers, supported by Which UK? and the Energy Saving Trust.
GetAHeatPump.org.uk addresses the gap in impartial and reliable advice for those looking to get a heat pump, by providing an end-to-end guide on how to transition to clean heat.
The website includes features such as:
- A quiz designed to help people find the right heat pump for their home
- Information on the cost of the heat pump installation process
- Resources on how to find a heat pump installer
- Case studies from heat pump owners
- Renovation tips on how to prepare your home for a heat pump
Transitioning from gas boilers to low-carbon heating systems such as heat pumps will be essential for the UK to reach its net zero goals. But despite this, most people in the UK have never seen a heat pump – with less than 1% using heat pumps to heat their homes.
Previous research from Nesta has found high satisfaction amongst heat pump owners. It found that among people who have had a heat pump installed in their current home, 81% are as satisfied or more satisfied with heat pumps compared to their previous heating system. The figure is similar - 83% - when looking at heat pump owners in Victorian or older properties.
By making information on heat pumps and the installation more accessible and streamlined, the Get a Heat Pump platform aims to make it easier for people to understand heat pumps and whether they might be right for their homes, and enable them to take concrete steps towards adopting one.
